Winter League 23/24 - The Captains' reflections
The 23/24 Winter League has now come to an end and what a season the Club has had. There have been some vintage performances from the Teams, we have seen development squads build on their potential, promotions earned and we have brought home 2 titles!
Park Ladies
Park Ladies 1 - Division 6
Park Ladies 1 delivered a faultless set of results over Winter League winning all six matches to secure the title in an undefeated campaign! It has been wonderful to welcome new players to the Team and watch the Team continue to go from strength to strength. There has been some fantastic tennis on display and the Team make being a spectating Captain very easy!
Four of the top five places in the players statistics are held by Park Ladies 1 members: Maeve, Claire, Peach and Adele - a testimony to the quality of the tennis on display! Congratulations ladies and thank you to all our supporters! Division 5 next year.

Park Ladies 2 - Division 6
Park Ladies 2 put up a good fight throughout the winter season. They battled through long matches, various court surfaces and close score lines. Of course with it being winter, the occasional soggy and windy conditions and one or two (thankfully resulting in no injuries) involuntary attempts at Djokovic splits!
The results saw us losing three matches but also winning three matches throughout the winter season coming fourth in the table!
Well done to all that played, and those that joined us from Ladies 1 and 3 occasionally too! There was great sportsmanship, atmosphere and smiles all round at matches! A good fight throughout the season!

Park Ladies 3 - Division 9
Park Ladies 3 started off the winter season with their first win against Borrowash. We only had tow other matches, and although we lost both, there was some excellent tennis setting us up well for the new summer season. Spoiler alert! We've won our first two matches in the summer league against Repton and Woodthorpe. A huge thanks to all those who've played and supported our developing squad, it's great to see newer players improve both their tennis, and their confidence.

Park Mens
Park 1 - Division 3
Park Men 1 finished third on game difference and narrowly missed out on promotion. We had four wins and two losses, one of which was against a very strong DL Notts team. But overall a very positive season with Ben Mitchell stepping up!

Park 2 - Division 9
Park Men 2 followed up a perfect Summer League season with another promotion in Winter League. The team won the first five games of the season before losing a close title decider to Wollaton and having to settle for second place. Special mention to Pete Worrall and Tyler Marsh who finished 1st and 2nd in individual player scores for the division.

Park 3 - Division 9
The aim for the Park Men 3 team was to get promoted in the 2023/24 Winter League season. With Park Men 2 in the same division, it was always going to be a tough task. Our first match against Park Men 2 was close, but not close enough! We now couldn't afford to lose any more matches! In true winter season form matches are played in wind, rain, cold temperatures and occasional sunshine as in the match against Caunton which was snowed off before Christmas and eventually played in January was anything to go by.
The Team managed to win the next tranche of matches beating Newark 2, Caunton 2 and NTU 2. So still in second place, we played Wollaton. Despite heroics from Sheldon England - diving like a young Boris Becker (although on concrete) - Wollaton won (they later also beat the Park Men 2 team). Our final game against East Bridgford at home, solidified our third place in the league and stands us in good stead for the future. Thanks to everyone who played and supported throughout all weathers!

Park Mixed Doubles
Park 1 - Division 6
The 1st Mixed Team had a fantastic season in a league with some strong teams. Winning their first three matches with relative ease, the final two matches saw some closer matches against tougher opponents. Despite losing one match all campaign, in which the winning margin was just two games(!), the Team went on to win the title and earn promotion to Division 5!
Ryan
Park 2 - Division 9
The second mixed team finished mid division with some great wins and close seconds! The Committee asked for a wide range of players to step up and volunteer to play mixed team tennis, and they did! Great to see so many social players moving into the Teams - great pairings and Team camaraderie! Thank you.
Liz
Park 3 - Division 10
The Park Mixed 3 Team had very close games & matches throughout the winter season. The lowest division can frequently be very tough, with other clubs sometimes fielding their better if not best players. Well played to everyone who participated.
