In the first of our Coaches' new Top Tips series, find out what the 'chopper' grip is and why it is important.
'Chopper' grip (otherwise known as continental grip)
A neutral grip position needed to execute the following strokes:
1. slice backhand (groundstroke)
2. slice forehand (groundstroke)
3. forehand volley
4. backhand volley
5. serve (flat and slice)
6. overhead smash
7. Mid-court half-volleys.
So, getting familiar with this grip is essential for any tennis player wanting to play intelligent tennis using as many shots as possible.
